04Our ethical standards
The Index is committed to accuracy, independence, and transparency. We fact-check our reporting, clearly distinguish opinion from reported work, and correct meaningful errors when they occur. Our writers and contributors are expected to disclose relevant conflicts of interest.
We use photography, commissioned artwork, archival material, and digitally created imagery, including generative tools, in our visual storytelling. We will never use AI-generated imagery in a way that intentionally misrepresents a real person, event, or circumstance as authentic documentation.
